IPL 2020: 5 eminent players released by franchises who could flourish for other teams

IPL 2020: This has been one of the most active transfer windows of the IPL with several big names being released by the franchises. Read to know more.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction is set to take place on December 19, in Kolkata. But ahead of the bidding process, the teams were given an opportunity to trade within themselves and franchises had to submit the list of retained and released players by November 14.

This has been one of the most active transfer windows of the IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore released 12 names off their roster, ahead of the auction. While Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders released 11 players. Defending champions Mumbai Indians released some big names like Ben Cutting, Evin Lewis, and Alzarri Joseph, while the Kings XI Punjab released heavyweights David Miller, Sam Curran, and Andrew Tye.

Let us have a look at top five high-profile players released by IPL teams who could be stars for other teams:

5. Chris Morris (Delhi Capitals)

South African all-rounder Chris Morris has been a veteran for Delhi Capitals over the past editions. Be it bowling yorkers at the death, or be it coming up with late-hitting to win matches, Morris has been Delhi’s saviour on many occasions. However, in the previous season, he had a batting average of just 5, and while he did take wickets, he conceded runs at an economy of more than 9.

4. Colin Munro (Delhi Capitals)

New Zealand’s attacking opener Colin Munro is one of the most destructive batsmen of modern cricket, but he has not yet lived up to his potential in IPL. He put up a dismal show for Delhi Capitals last season as well, scoring 84 runs from 4 matches at an average of 14.75 and a strike rate of 125.

3.  David Miller (Kings XI Punjab)

KXIP go into the auction on December 19 with a purse of Rs 42.70 crore which is bigger than the rest of the seven teams after they released eight players including their star performer over the years David Miller. Miller was KXIP's batting mainstay over the past eight seasons, scoring 1850 runs in 79 games at a strike rate of 138.78. But he had a poor last couple of seasons which led to his release.

2. Sam Curran (Kings XI Punjab)

Sam Curran was another high-profile name released by KXIP. One of the most exciting youngsters in world cricket, Curran played 9 matches in his debut season last year. He had the highest score of 55* and the best bowling effort of 4/11 which includes a hat-trick. Teams will look to get buy Curran who can provide stability to the side as an all-rounder.

1. Chriss Lynn (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Lynn who is one of the most explosive openers in the shortest format was released by KKR after five seasons when he got the team off to a flying start on umpteen occasions. Lynn played 13 matches for KKR last season, scoring 405 runs at a handsome average of 31.5 and a strike rate of 140.65.
