The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest cricket tournament in the world. The tournament which will commence with its 13th season has been a trendsetter in T20 cricket since the tournament's inception in 2008. The IPL is a place where legendary cricketers have shared dressing rooms with aspiring youngsters and other legends. Every year, the team owners assemble at a location and participate in the auctions where they stack their teams for the forthcoming season.

Last auction before planned overhaul

Multiple reports state that the 2020 Player Auction will be held on December 19, 2019 in Kolkata. This is the first time the auction is being held at someplace other than Bengaluru. This will be the last auction before all teams have to let go of their squads and rebuild for the 2021 season. The IPL is also reportedly planning to add two new teams in the 2021 IPL. The teams will only be making supplemental changes to their squads by adding newer players to an already settled core. Delhi Capitals have the biggest purse balance with ₹8.2 crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore have the lowest balance with ₹1.8 crore. The trading windows for the teams will be closing on November 14.

Team updates so far

There has not been too much of trading activity among the franchises, as of now. Three-time champions Mumbai Indians traded spinner Mayank Markande with Delhi Capitals' Sherfane Rutherford. Big news came from the Kings XI Punjab camp where the management was reportedly in talks to trade captain Ravi Ashwin with the Delhi Capitals. It was later reported that Ashwin was not being traded but sold. There have been no further updates on that front so far but now that there is a definite closing date on transfers, maybe franchises will hurry their processes up. The schedule and further updates are expected to be reported soon.
