Islamabad United won an extraordinary top-of-the-table clash against Lahore Qalanders in the Pakistan Super League on Sunday.

Few would have given Shadab Khan's side much of a chance after he chose to bat first and United slumped to 20 for 5 in the seventh over.

However, Iftikar Ahmed (49 from 37 balls) and Asif Ali (75 from 43 balls) then put on 123 for the sixth wicket and they managed to post 152 for 7 from their 20 overs.

It still looked a modest total, especially after Fakar Zaman (44 from 37 balls) and Shadab's opposite number Sohail Akhtar (34 from 19 balls) had shared an opening stand of 55 in six overs for Lahore.

But from 86 for 2 after ten overs, they then lost seven wickets for 14 runs and were bowled out for 124 at the start of the 18th.

Muhammad Musa was the chief destroyer, taking three wickets for 18 runs and there were two wickets apiece for Fawad Ahmed (2-27) and Shadab himsef (2-14) as United won by 28 runs in the end.

The result put Islamabad (5-2) level with Lahore (5-2) on ten points at the top of the standings, but ahead on net run rate.
