Kevin O'Brien equals Colin Munro's record in men's T20I cricket

Irish batsman Kevin O'Brien on October 21 equaled the world record of the most sixes hit in a calendar year in men's T20I cricket.O'Brien had 34 sixes added to his career before he ventured out on the field to play the T20 World Cup qualifier against Oman. As he struck a six in the match, he equaled the record of New Zealand batsman Colin Munro.

"WORLD RECORD! Kevin O'Brien equals Colin Munro's record for the most sixes hit in a calendar year in men's T20I cricket. Just the 35 maximums in T20Is this year for O'Brien!," T20 World Cup tweeted. O'Brien scored 41 runs from 28 balls to support his team reach a total of 183 runs in the match. Oman is yet to bat in the match.

About O'Brien

Kevin Joseph O'Brien is an Irish cricketer who plays for Ireland, Leinster and Railway Union Cricket Club and has played for several English county cricket clubs. He scored the fastest century ever in the 50-over World Cup, coming from 50 balls against England on 2 March 2011. He was one of the eleven cricketers to play in Ireland's first-ever Test match, against Pakistan, on May 2018, scoring the first Test century for Ireland men's cricket and becoming the first sportsperson from Ireland to represent his country 300 times.O'Brien is an aggressive right-handed middle to lower-order batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2006 in Ireland's inaugural match. He was the first player for Ireland to take 100 wickets in ODIs.

Colin Munro is a South-African born New Zealand international cricketer, who plays limited-overs formats of the game. He was a member of New Zealand Under 19 side and is currently a member of the Auckland cricket team. He is the first player to score three Twenty20 International centuries.
