Kevin O’Brien smashes hundred in T20I, joins elite list of batsmen

Irish cricketer, Kevin O'Brien's knock of 124 vs Hong Kong has now placed him in elite company. With that knock, he becomes the first Irish batsman to score a T20I hundred. He is now in the elite company of players like Chris Gayle, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul as he is one of the few batsmen in world cricket to have centuries in all major formats - ODIs, Tests, and T20Is.

A Trendsetter in Irish cricket

O'Brien's innings of 124 against Hong Kong comprised of 12 fours and seven sixes. He only took 62 balls to get to this score. O'Brien has been opening for the Irish team in T20Is lately and was pleased with his performance in the match. His next target is getting his team into the T20 World Cup squad scheduled for 2020. O'Brien is fairly confident of his team mentioning in an interview how they are playing well as a team and all aspects of their game are getting better.

The lanky batsman has been a trendsetter for Irish cricket. He also became the first Irish batsman to score a hundred in Test match cricket as he made 118 against Pakistan in Ireland's first-ever Test match. O'Brien etched his name in history way back in ICC CWC 2011 when he smashed the fastest hundred in the World Cup against England and helped Ireland pull off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. O'Brien debuted for the Irish team in 2006 when he played an ODI against England. O'Brien has never been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
