An undefeated Team India will be looking to continue their splendid run in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 when they lock horns against the hosts England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday. The Virat Kohli-led side are at the second spot in the points table with five wins in six matches and 11 points on the board. Meanwhile, England are at the fourth position with four wins in seven games and three losses. They have eight points in their tally. The hosts will now need to win their last two encounters against India and New Zealand respectively to be assured of a spot in the semis.
Ahead of the mouth-watering clash at Birmingham, former English skipper Kevin Pietersen has got a special request for India's head coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli.
Pietersen took to Twitter and wrote 'Dear Virat & Ravi - please don’t drop Vijay Shankar. I think he’s coming into his own and would potentially win you tomorrow’s game. Don’t think about Pant. He needs another 3 weeks prep before I think he can get into your World Cup side. Thanks, boys!.'
Read the tweet here:
Vijay Shankar, who had made his World Cup debut against arch-rivals Pakistan, had a dream start as he picked up a wicket off his first ball. The all-rounder scalped Imam-Ul-Haq and Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed in that match. However, Shankar then had two forgettable outings against Afghanistan and West Indies respectively. He was not given the ball in those two games and he could not make an impact with the bat either as he got out with scores of 29 and 14.
Nonetheless, the netizens were not at all convinced with KP as they sensed something fishy.
