'King' Virat Kohli retains the 'Numero Uno' spot in ICC Test rankings for batsmen

There is no stopping Virat Kohli, it appears. The run machine continues to be unstoppable and this has resulted in him retaining the top position in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen to add to his No.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings.

Kohli led India to their first ever Test series win against Australia Down Under. He had a decent run with the bat in the four-match Test series where he had scored 282 runs at an average of 40.28 which included a century and a half-century each. Prior to the Australia series, Virat had a forgettable series in England as a captain where India were humbled 4-1 by the hosts. Nonetheless, he had a dream run with the bat as he scored 593 runs in the five-match Test series at an average of 59.30.

Kohli had earlier won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award and has been dominating Test cricket for quite some time. Kohli has a rating of 922 points. He had an outstanding 2018 in Tests where he had amassed 1,322 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 55.08 which included five centuries. The reason why 2018 will always be memorable for Virat Kohli as a Test batsman is that he had succeeded in scoring runs in tough conditions of South Africa, England and Australia. He also managed to silence his critics who had wondered whether Kohli will be able to bury his ghosts of the 2014 England tour. He made his bat do the talking and was rewarded for it. He had also scored his 25th Test ton at the Perth Test in December 2018 which India went on to lose. However, he became the second fastest batsman after the legendary Sir Don Bradman to register his 25th century. Kohli took 127 innings to reach the milestone while Bradman had achieved this feat in just 68 innings.

Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has grabbed the second spot with 913 points while Cheteshwar Pujara is at the third spot with 881 points.  Australia's Steve Smith and New Zealand's Henry Nicholls take the fourth and fifth spots with 857 and 778 points respectively.
