Madhav Apte, the former Indian cricketer passed away on Monday morning at the age of 86 at the Breach Candy Hospital. According to the reports, Apte suffered from a cardiac arrest. He would have turned 87 on October 5. Several leaders from the cricket field have expressed their condolences through social media. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given out a statement. 

BCCI pays condolences

The BCCI expressed their condolences of the demise of the former Indian opener, Madhav Apte. According to PTI, the BCCI in a statement said, "He will remain one of the most loved cricketers and the BCCI extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends in this hour of grief." The statement further read, "Apte continued to be a dominant force in first-class cricket playing for Mumbai both as a batsman and captain. He finished with 67 first-class games with 3336 runs at an average of 38.79 that included six centuries and sixteen half-centuries." Further, several other leaders from the cricket field expressed their condolences.

Madhav Apte's career

The former Indian cricketer had a 17-year long cricket career. He made his Test debut against Pakistan in November 1952 in Nagpur. He has played seven Tests for India, five of which were against West Indies at home where he scored 542 runs at an outstanding average of 49.27. According to reports, he has featured in 67 first-class matches in which he has scored 3,336 runs with six centuries and 16 half-centuries. Post his retirement, Apte served as the President of the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai. During that time, he was the person who was responsible to bring in Sachin Tendulkar.
