Mitchell Johnson given honourary membership at MCC, struggles to hide his delight

England and Australia are battling it out in the second Test of the ongoing Ashes series at the 'Mecca of Cricket in Lord's. The hosts will be looking bounce back after a humiliating defeat by a mammoth margin of 251 runs while the Aussies will be hoping for another win under their belt and gain the upper hand in the five-match series. As the two teams battle it out for the 'Urn', Mitchell Johnson has also made his presence felt at the iconic venue. No, he did was not on the field, sitting among the fans or inside the commentary box. There was a reason why the Aussie great was present over there. 

Mitchell Johnson given honourary membership at MCC 

This is indeed one of the biggest achievements of Johnson's career as the former fast bowler was elected as an Honorary Life Member of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).  This news was also confirmed by the Lord's Cricket Ground on their official Twitter handle.

Lord's Cricket Ground also posted a video of the ex-pacer where he is saying that he couldn't hide his delight when given his MCC Honorary Life Membership today.

"Absolutely amazing feeling, never thought I'd be sitting here. Being at Lord's and to be an Honorary Member now is, yeah it's just blown me away so, it's just nice to be recognised I guess, by the MCC. Really, really honoured and really proud to be in this position right now", said a delighted Johnson.

Mitchell Johnson's cricketing career 

Mitchell Johnson started his cricketing career for Australia in 2005 and hung up his boots in 2015. In his decade-long career, the speedster has featured in 73 Tests, 153 One Day Internationals and 30 T20Is for the five-time World Cup holders. Speaking about World Cups, the veteran quickie was a part of Australia's two successful World Cup triumphs in 2007 and 2015 respectively. The ex-cricketer was also a part of the Ricky Ponting-led side that had won back-to-back Champions Trophies in 2006 and 2009 respectively. 

When it comes to Ashes, the left-arm fast bowler was at his lethal best during the 2013/14 series where his fiery spell left the English batsmen in a spot of bother. Johnson was adjudged Man of the Series for 37 scalps in five matches where Australia recorded only the third 5–0 Ashes whitewash in history. He had also won three Man of the Match awards in that series.
