Hack:

  • Prithvi Shaw, who hails from Mumbai, failed to make a mark in his side's win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium
  • While the youngster would surely have been disappointed with his performance with the bat, his mood was lifted at the end of the match when MI icon and Prithvi's idol Sachin Tendulkar met him

Delhi Capitals (DC) began their 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign in a sensational fashion, beating three-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 37 runs at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday.

It was a clinical performance by the Delhi unit, who under their new name are aiming to lift their first ever IPL title. Each and every played in the starting XI played his part.

Though, one individual who missed out on having an impact was young Prithvi Shaw. The 19-year-old, who hails from Mumbai, could do very little in his side's brilliant win over the home team.

While the youngster would surely have been disappointed with his performance with the bat, his mood was lifted at the end of the match when MI icon and Prithvi's idol Sachin Tendulkar met him.

In a video posted by the official Twitter handle of the IPL, Sachin can be seen sharing some wise words with the 19-year-old, who seems to be overjoyed by the occasion.

Rishabh Pant was in a sensational form on Sunday as his stunning 27-ball 78 at a strike rate of 288 to help Delhi Capitals post 213 for 6 in their 20 overs, after being put into bat first by Rohit Sharma. Opener Shikhar Dhawan also looked fine for his 43, and same was the case with Colin Ingram, who made a quickfire 47 as the visitors piled a big total on the board.

In reply, Mumbai never looked in the game, and kept losing wickets in regular intervals. Quinton de Kock looked good early on in the innings, but his stay at the crease was short-lived as he was dismissed for 27 by a rejuvenated Ishant Sharma. This dismissal came just after the tall pacer had removed Rohit for 14.

The hosts never recovered from the early blows, and despite a well-made half century by Yuvraj Singh on his MI debut, and a late blitz by Krunal Pandya, they fell short by 37 runs.
