Former team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Monday became the sixth Indian player to feature in 300 ODIs for the country. Known as one of the best finishers in 50-over cricket, Dhoni now will be joining India's elite 'Club 300', following the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. Our favorite ‘captain cool’ is now India’s fourth highest run-scorer in ODIs. The former skipper remained the cynosure of all eyes in a tweet posted by BCCI captioned, “'You will always remain our Captain,' says Virat Kohli on MS Dhoni's 300th ODI celebration #Dhoni300.”

At the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the team shared a moment where coach Ravi Shastri handed debutant Shardul Thakur his first cap, after which Virat Kohli stepped up. The skipper hand over a little token of appreciation to Dhoni. Merely a few moments later, skipper Virat Kohli, "MS has been a legend of the game. We know the importance of him in our cricketing careers. 90 per cent of us started our careers under him.”

He added:

“You will always remain our Captain”

Let’s not forget that MS Dhoni also tops the charts on most stumpings by a wicketkeeper and is only a game away from becoming the first player to have 100 stumpings to his name, as he is currently tied with Kumar Sangakkara.

Here are a few other wishes, reactions and throwback images which poured in

Former team India batsman Mohammad Kaif took to Twitter to congratulate MS Dhoni on his achievement. Making a reference to the teams batting performance, he said, "With the start, looks like Virat is going to make it xtra special by a really big one (sic)"

Few words of wisdom were passed from one legend to another with master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar wishing our Captain cool, "a great game today"

Raina's image certainly had us grinning from ear to ear. "My wishes to the man who always inspires me!" the 30-year-old wrote.

Pragyan Ojha‏'s took to #ThrowbackThursday on this special occasion as he wrote, "It's special to reach the landmark of 300 ODIs" and added that he hopes the latter will "continue to make our country proud"
