Mumbai Indians will be hosting Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Both the teams have won the IPL three times each and have faced each other thrice in the final (2010,2013 & 2015). Heading into this contest, Mumbai will be looking to register their first home win of this season while Chennai will be aiming to keep their unbeaten run intact.
Prior to CSK's match against Mumbai, skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh decided to pose for a picture in order to commemorate the eighth anniversary of India's emphatic World Cup triumph at the Wankhede Stadium. Their team Chennai Super Kings took to Twitter to share this wonderful picture.
On April 2, 2011, India had lifted the World Cup for the second time after a long wait of 28 years. At the same time, India also became the first nation to win the World Cup on home soil after beating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final. The then Indian skipper MS Dhoni had led from the front very effectively and played a splendid knock of an unbeaten 91 to help India cross the final hurdle. His match-winning six is still considered as an iconic moment in the minds of all Indian Cricket lovers. He did not have a good tournament with the bat but he had saved his best for the last.
Suresh Raina also had a lion's share in India's triumph. Raina scored an unbeaten 34 and stitched in a 74 run sixth wicket stand with Yuvraj Singh (57) to take India into the semis and knock out Australia who had won three consecutive World Cups coming into this tournament. Raina then played an important cameo of a 39-ball 36 which helped India reach a fighting total of 260/9 in their 50 overs. In the end it prove to be enough as India won the contest by 29 runs.
Even Harbhajan Singh played a good hand in pioneering India's win. He had taken nine wickets in the competition. He turned the tide in India's favour during their semi-final encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan where he dismissed two dangerous batsmen Umar Akmal and Shahid Afridi.
