After suffering yet another loss at the hands of India at a World Cup, Pakistan has been on the receiving end of criticism as former players and fans continued to hound the team for losing against their arch-rivals without even putting up a fight. Pakistan lost to India in the high-octane clash by 89 runs (D/L Method), drawing flak from former players like Shoaib Akhtar to fans who pointed fingers at the team's fitness.
Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir took to Twitter to request fans to not hurl abuses at players and assured them that the team will bounce back in the tournament. He said the fans can criticize the performance of the team but they will bounce back and they need the support of their fans. Read the tweet here:
Mohammad Amir, who has had a spectacular World Cup so far, was the only star performer for Pakistan against India as he picked up 3 wickets for 47 runs in 10 overs, earning praise from fans. The rest of the team were subjected to severe criticism and abuse as they were seen to be lackadaisical on the field including captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was caught on camera yawning on the field as he kept behind the stumps.
Disappointed fans took to social media to question the fitness of the Pakistani players as fans had players of the team eating burgers, pizzas and smoking sheeshas the night before the match against India. Lapses on the field like a missed run-out chance of Rohit Sharma's and a few dropped catches along with the collapse of their batting line-up proved costly to Pakistan as they bowed down to India. Even an interference by the rain couldn't save them as they were struggling to score runs with the bat, thanks to the mighty prowess of Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar.
Pakistan will next face South Africa at Lord's, London on June 23.
