Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's wife Rivaba Jadeja got appointed as the President of Karni Sena's women's wing chief of Gujarat on Friday. The organization, which is a pro-Rajput group, stated that its president Mahipalsinh Makrana appointed the cricketer's wife to the post.
Speaking to the media after being put into a new role, Rivaba said, "My first goal would be to empower women to the level that they can fend for themselves, take care of themselves and defend themselves when men are not around and fight off any threats from perverted minds. This is my prime goal as I have personally been through such an experience."
Rivaba also mentioned that she took the decision with full support of his husband Ravindra Jadeja. "I had told him that it was for our community. I told him that if I can set an example, it would be for the good of our community only. And his response was that if I wanted and believed that I could do something for the community, I should go ahead. I have his full support," she added.
Though, she stopped short of speaking much on her possible entry into politics. "I can’t say anything with certainty at this stage. I wold like to make contribution in the capacity for which my community has selected me. You may call this a beginning. I have lots of good plans for our community and our country in coming days. Presently, my focus is social service," Rivaba also mentioned.
Karni Sena is the very same group which held protests in a number of states last year and earlier this year against the release of the movie 'Padmaavat'. They had also issued public warnings to the film's actress Deepika Padukone, warning her of dire consequences.
"Despite being warned against instigating Laxman when the evil woman did not stop, even Laxman was forced to maim her by cutting off her nose. We are Khastriyas we do not raise our hand on women but if the actress does not stop instigating we too shall have to take appropriate action to teach her a lesson," Karni Sena chief had said last November.
