‘Roar of the Lion’ traces Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings’ comeback story from a two-season ban to becoming champions on return, the trailer revealed. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be narrating the journey of the champion team during the tough phase, stating even he was accused as match-fixing allegations associated with the members of the management tainted the image of the team.
“The biggest crime that I can commit is not murder; it’s actually match-fixing. I was accused too. It was a tough phase for us. Fans felt that the punishment was harsh. Coming back, was an emotional moment. And I’ll always said, what doesn’t kill you makes you strong,” Dhoni says in the video.
The video also features visuals of the fans, matches, Dhoni walking out to bat, star players Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina and the ultimate lifting of the trophy. Calling it the story of stubbornness or determination, the streaming platform Hotstar called it one of ‘India’s greatest comeback stories.’

Supreme Court-appointed three-member committee, headed by former Chief Justice of India R M Lodha had banned the team and Rajasthan Royals for two years after key persons associated with the franchise were accused of betting and match-fixing related activities.
After missing out on IPL in 2016 and 2017, CSK, the most consistent side in the tournament, won their third IPL title in 2018 under Dhoni’s leadership.
While the teaser of the documentary had made us believe that Dhoni would be narrating his own life story, it has only turned out to be about this important chapter of his life.
