Rohit Sharma is having a dream run in the ongoing Test series. Rohit, who was making his comeback in Test cricket silenced his critics by some outstanding batting performances. The 'Hitman' had scored centuries in both innings of the first Test at Vizag. He could not do well at Pune as he was dismissed early on. However, Sharma ensured that he did not repeat the same mistake at Ranchi as he played the first spell cautiously while carrying out the rescue act with Ajinkya Rahane after the hosts were reduced to 39/3 due to some excellent piece of bowling. Meanwhile, Rohit had talked about surviving the initial spell and also hailed Rahane's momentum.
Ajinkya Rahane had joined Sharma out in the middle after India were in a spot of bother and at that point in time they had to see off the initial spell to rebuild the innings.
"Ajinkya has done a lot to make progress in his Test career and has saved the team during crunch situations. Not just in one or two innings but he has done in plenty of innings and this shows how mentally strong he is", said Rohit Sharma.
Rohit also said that Rahane's Test graph is only going up as he has been performing well in India and overseas. "Mine and Ajinkya's partnership was very crucial from the team's point of view. There was enough understanding between us since we have played a lot together. Our communication while running between the wickets was very good and I am very happy that he scored a century," added Rohit.
Rohit and Ajinkya Rahane made the South African bowlers toil with some masterclass batting performances. The duo added 267 runs for the fourth-wicket stand. Rohit Sharma notched up his maiden Test double ton while Rahane got to his 11th Test century. Sharma was dismissed for a 255-ball 212 while Rahane got out after scoring 192-ball 115. India declared their innings at 497/9 and reduced the Proteas for 9/2 before bad light stopped play.
