Many might know Rohit Sharma, the Hitman as he fondly referred as, for his hard-hitting abilities. But not very often his leadership qualities on the pitch is spoken about. A recent instance where is leadership skills became a major talking, was during the first T20I against West Indies.
The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated West Indies in the first T20I played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to take an early 1-0 lead in the three-match series. After a stuttering chase, Dinesh Karthik steadied the ship for the Men in Blue before Krunal Pandya wrapped things up in style with a quickfire 21 runs off nine balls. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the Indian bowlers bagging three wickets by giving away only 13 runs, the chinaman bowler was rightfully awarded the Man Of the Match for his brilliant showing.
Rohit Sharma was named the captain of the side in the absence of Virat Kohli who has been rested keeping in mind the grueling tour of Australia which takes place later this month. Though, the Mumbai-based swashbuckling batsman couldn't star with his bat, it was his captaincy that seemed to have played an instrumental role in India's outstanding win.
Interestingly, Rohit Sharma created a new record in the process as he registered the most number of wins as skipper in T20Is. By doing so, he has surpassed Australian skipper Michael Clarke and former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik, who had eight wins each to their name in their first ten T20Is as captains.
Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, India has played nine ODIs and 10 T20 internationals so far. Out of which, Rohit Sharma accounts for seven ODI wins and mime T20 wins. This also includes India's seventh Asia Cup crown, the triangular T20 Nidhas Trophy, and the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Not only for the national team, but Rohit Sharma has shone with the captaincy duties in the domestic circuit and the IPL as well. Rohit Sharna has led the Mumbai Indians to three titles and also the Champions League. Mumbai's victory under his captaincy was 57.01 percent, the highest since Chennai Super Kings.
