Sachin Tendulkar showers praise on Indian cricket team after Asia Cup triumph

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has lavished praise over the Indian cricket team's performance at the recently concluded 2018 Asia Cup.

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has lavished praise over the Indian cricket team's performance at the recently concluded 2018 Asia Cup. The  Master Blaster was left in awe after the team put up an all-round show to beat Bangladesh in a nail-bitting to clinch its seventh Asia Cup title. 

“I did not see all the matches. Whenever I see, I feel happy for the way we [India] are performing”, Tendulkar was quoted as saying by PTI on Sunday.

The cricket legend was speaking after flagging off the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon from the Jio Gardens in suburban Bandra Kurla Complex. Sachin Tendulkar credited the team for maintaining their unbeaten run en route to the final.

“I will give the credit to the whole team. Individuals come and perform well, some players play the series well, some players cannot perform as desired but eventually I’ll say that I feel happy after seeing the team effort,” he said.

The cricket legend was speaking after flagging off the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon from the Jio Gardens in suburban Bandra Kurla Complex, further added: “I would like to congratulate everyone. Eventually what you want is a good team effort and that the team has performed well,” said Tendulkar.

Tendulkar also spoke about the importance of any healthy lifestyle and how important of a role it plays in a persons life: the bigger picture what we are looking at is the good health of India, getting used to living a healthy lifestyle, looking after your health and staying fit.''

The diminutive batsman concluded by advocating the importance of a healthy lifestyle by pointing out an example from his own life, “I was brought up by my grandmother who used to say that your health is your real wealth and the same message I would like to give to the entire nation. Look after your health and stay fit.”

Meanwhile, BCCI announced its 15-member squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies. In surprise omissions, in-form batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were left out of squad. 

Virat Kohli, who was rested for the 2018 Asia Cup, will be back in business as he returns to take over the captaincy duties, while Ajinkya Rahane will be his deputy. The first Test will be played in Rajkot on October 4, followed by the second Test which will be played ar the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on October 12.
