Sanju Samson breaks record with double hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Sanju Samson's double hundred for Kerala against Goa in Vijay Hazare Trophy takes him past Abid Ali as highest-ever List A score by a wicket-keeper in a match.

Kerala’s wicket-keeper/batsman Sanju Samson registered his maiden double hundred of his list A career in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Kerala and Goa. With this knock, Samson also made his case for selection for the wicket-keeper’s role in the national side. Earlier on Friday, Virat Kohli had scored a record-breaking double hundred against South Africa in the ongoing 2nd Test match in Pune.

Vijay Hazare Trophy: Records broken by Sanju Samson after double hundred

Sanju Samson slammed an unbeaten 212 runs off just 129 deliveries against Goa in Alur. The right-hander slammed 20 fours and ten sixes in his sublime knock against helpless Goa bowlers. Apart from the swashbuckling knock he also created an international record.

Sanju (212 runs) eclipsed Pakistan’s Abid Ali (209*) to score the highest-ever List A score by a wicketkeeper in a match. Ali had scored unbeaten 209 for Islamabad against Peshawar in Pakistan’s National One Day Cup.

His double century is also the third-highest List A score in India and fourth by an Indian. His majestic knock also became the new highest score in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by an individual, surpassing KV Kaushal of Uttarakhand, who scored 202 against Sikkim last year.

Overall, Samson has amassed 379 runs in six games of the Vijay Hazare Trophy so far. In addition, he also scored a brilliant 48-ball 91 against South Africa A side in the one-day series last month.

According to reports, India legend Sunil Gavaskar feels that if India have to look beyond Rishabh Pant, then Kerala's Sanju Samson is the right man.
