Nor Virat Kohli, or Shikhar Dhawan, or MS Dhoni or Hardik Pandya could do in three matches what Shardul Thakur did in 13 balls. The pace bowler was included in the line-up for the final ODI against England in order to strengthen the bowling.

But before he could get a chance to bowl, he showed his batting talents, smacking 22 of just 13 balls which included two sixes. In doing so, he achieved a mini-record for the series.

Shardul became only the second Indian player, after Rohit Sharma, to score a '6' in the ODI series. His two maximums in the 49th over of Ben Stokes were the only sixes of the Indian innings.

Not only this, Shardul also scored his team's first six since Rohit scored four of them in the first ODI. India had gone the whole of second ODI and 48 overs of the third ODI without scoring a maximum.

His efforts propelled India to a respectable 256 for 8 in 50 overs in the deciding match. While the decision to include Shardul brought some joy to the fans, there was anger amongst many for the exclusion of KL Rahul.

Eoin Morgan flipped the toss in the series decider, and Virat Kohli predicted it to be heads. He was wrong, and England won the toss and chose to field first. There was one enforced change for the hosts, with James Vince repalcing Jason Roy.

When Kohli announced India's starting XI, the fans were left stunned by one decision. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur had replaced Umesh Yadav and Siddharth Kaul. It was expected, given the latter two were expensive in the first two matches.

But when the Indian skipper told that Dinesh Karthik had replaced the excellent KL Rahul, the Indian fans were shocked. It was a decision which didn't make much of a sense, given the form and talent of Rahul.

India had started their tour of England with a 2-1 win in the T20I series. But the hosts fought back, and have won the ODI series by the same margin. Joe Root was the star, with two centuries in three matches.
