Showering huge praise on the wicket-keeper, despite him not featuring for the Indian cricket team in the past few months, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has termed Wriddhiman Saha as the best 'glovesman' in the last 5-10 years.

Speaking to PTI, 'Dada' stated that it isn't MS Dhoni, but Saha who has been the best player for India when it comes to donning the gloves in the past decade or so. He said,

"He’s out of the team for about a year now but I think in the last five to 10 years, he has been India’s best glovesman. Hope he recovers soon. Injury is not in your hands. Wicketkeeper has to dive and he got injured while diving. It takes a certain time to recover. The faster he recovers, the better it is."

Saha, who has been a regular behind the wicket in Test cricket ever since MS Dhoni's retirement from the format, has been away from cricketing action having sustained a finger injury during the IPL 2018, which was followed by a shoulder injury. His place in the team was taken by Dinesh Karthik for the England Test series, and now Rishabh Pant has become the man with the gloves.

The player from Bengal last featured for India in the first Test against South Africa earlier this year in January. In the rest of that series, Parthiv Patel took over the role as the wicket-keeper.

In the tour of England, Karthik was given the responsibility in the first two Test matches. But after his disappointing displays, young Rishabh Pant was handed the gloves. In the three matches he played, Pant scored 162 runs, which included a maiden Test century in the final match. He continued his excellent form in the recent two-Test series against West Indies, wherein he scored 184 runs in two innings.

Next up is the tour of Australia, which will began later this month. For that series Pant is expected to continue as the No.1 keeper for the team, with Karthik expected to provide the back-up.
