South Africa Cricket News: OTD In 2017 Amla And De Kock Battered BAN

On this day in 2017, South African openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla put Bangladesh to the sword after a record partnership in the first ODI at Kimberely. Chasing 279 to win, South Africa won the game comprehensively in the 43rd over of the innings. Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla scored centuries helping South Africa win the encounter by 10 wickets. Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim also scored a hundred to propel Bangladesh to a respectable 279.

South Africa vs Bangladesh: Rahim Redemption

Bangladesh came into the ODI series after being completely battered in the Test series. Bangladesh lost the first Test by 333 runs and the second one by an innings and 254 runs. Despite the troubles, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat in the first ODI at Kimberley. Bangladesh started cautiously, putting on 44 for the loss of Liton Das. Mushfiqur Rahim’s arrival in the 14th over after Imrul Kayes’s dismissal saw Bangladesh effectively change gears. Mushfiqur kept the scoreboard ticking but his fellow teammates couldn’t convert their starts into substantial scores. Mushfiqur kept going, playing some audacious strokes including the ones charging the fast bowlers en route a well deserved hundred. He became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a hundred vs South Africa in any format of the game. Bangladesh ended with 278/7, with no one except Mushfiqur scoring more than 31.

South Africa vs Bangladesh: Bangladesh Battered

South Africa’s famed duo of Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla walked into bat knowing that the Bangladeshis were without their lead pacer, Mustafizur Rahman. de Kock attacked from the onset taking a special liking for Mohammad Saifuddin and Taskin Ahmed. Amla, on the other hand, stood his ground, accumulating in his casual demeanour, letting de Kock do all the attacking. de Kock raced to his 13th ODI hundred, while Hashim Amla recorded his 26th ODI Ton. The duo put on the record for the highest partnership by a South African pair, for any wicket, in any format. de Kock finished with 168* while Hashim Amla remained 110* as South Africa chased down the Bangladesh total without losing a wicket with 43 balls to spare.
