  • Ravichandran Ashwin was not selected in the Playing XI for the first Test
  • Fans expressed their disappointment as the veteran off-spinner's exclusion

Team India start their ICC World Test Championship campaign in the two-match Test series against West Indies. The first of the series begins at Antigua on Thursday. Virat Kohli & Co. have had a splendid Caribbean tour so far with the limited-overs series wins under their belt. The Virat Kohli-led outfit won the T20Is 3-0 and ODI's 2-0 without a loss. The focus shifts to the game's longest format as Team India look to consolidate the 'Numero Uno' spot.

West Indies skipper Jason Holder won the toss and asked India to bat first. However, when the Playing XI was announced, it was revealed that Ravichandran Ashwin has been left out for the match while his spin partner Ravindra Jadeja was selected.

This was also confirmed by International Cricket Council (ICC) on their official Twitter handle. Take a look.

Fans cannot hide their disappointment at Ravichandran Ashwin's exclusion

When fans came to know that Ashwin was not in the scheme of things for the first Test match, they came forward to back one of Team India's most lethal weapons in the longest format.

Here are some of the reactions:

Ravichandran Ashwin's Test career

Ashwin is not being considered in Team India's limited-overs squad since 2017. Since then, he only makes his presence felt in the national side during the red-ball cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin has been arguably the best spinner for Team India in the game's longest format. The 32-year-old was the fastest Indian spinner and the second-fastest to reach 200 Test scalps. Ashwin had achieved this feat in just 37 matches.
