The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced its 15-member World Cup squad on Monday. While most of the squad which was named for the showpiece event consists of players who have been in the team since almost a couple of years i.e. post the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, there were a few surprises and heartbreaks.
While the debate about Dinesh Karthik's selection over Rishabh Pant and Pant being omitted was the talking point of the day, there was another player who was overlooked by the selectors and that player was none other than Ambati Rayudu. Rayudu was widely thought to have been in contention for the fourth batsman's spot, but lost out to Vijay Shankar, with chief selector MSK Prasad highlighting that Shankar brings 'three dimensions' - referring to his batting, bowling and fielding abilities.
In response to this, Ambati Rayudu has issued a tweet that has divided the Internet. While some feel what he means is that he will be watching the World Cup with a beady eye and has taken the exclusion in his stride, others believe he's taken a sarcastic jibe:
Here are some of the responses:
Some said that he indeed needed 3D glasses so that he could watch Vijay Shankar who is a three dimensional player. Referring to his all-round abilities.
While some cheered him up and told him to focus and move on.
