The Ashes have just gotten over with the urn being retained by the Aussies. This Ashes series gave us a lot of moments to look back at with the historic Headingley match being one of the few. It has been an unconventional summer for the English as they won the World Cup with a tie and they lost the Ashes despite drawing the series. Let us take a look back at the Top 5 batsman who stood out this Ashes.

5. Matthew Wade

The Aussie who has been in the shadows for a while finally started showing shades of the amazing batsman he can be. Wade, who had a very interesting battle with Jofra Archer and his bouncers, scored a second Ashes hundred in the second innings of the final match. Wade scored 337 runs in his ten innings at an average of 33.70

4. Marnus Lambuschagne

The batsman who came in as the first-ever concussion substitute for Steve Smith proved to be a revelation who did not let the Aussies feel the brief absence of Steve Smith. Lambushagne scored 353 runs in his 7 outings with the bat, at an impressive average of 50.43.

3. Rory Burns

The England opener showed signs of genius when he held his end in the opening match of the Ashes. He scored his first test hundred in the same match as well. Burns was solid for England at the top of the innings and ended up scoring 390 runs in his 10 innings at an average of 39.00.

2. Ben Stokes

The all-rounder who is on his way to becoming one of the greatest all-rounders in history gave us unparalleled moments this Ashes. The third match at Headingley where England needed to win to stay in the series was only saved by Stokes who spearheaded the England Innings to save the team even though they only had a wicket to spare. Stokes ended the Ashes with 441 runs in his 10 innings at an average of 55.12.

1. Steve Smith

After all the dust from sandpaper-gate had settled, Smith needed to reclaim his spot as one of the best batsmen in the world. In the Ashes, the former Aussie skipper redeemed himself as only he can. In 7 innings Smith scored a whopping 774 runs at an average of 110.57 with 6 consecutive innings of over 80.
