Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has been facing backlash from several greats of the game as well as the Twitterati for 'Mankading' a well-set Jos Buttler on Monday. Rajasthan Royals were chasing a target of 185 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The incident took place in the 13th over of Rajasthan innings when Ashwin dislodged the bails at the non-striker's end when he saw that Buttler had come down the pitch. After the bails were dislodged, he appealed for a run-out and the umpires took this matter to the third umpire who made the decision in Ashwin's favour to Buttler's utter disbelief. Buttler was also disappointed because Ashwin had not warned him about it. Buttler was disappointed to such an extent that he did not shake hands with Ashwin after the game.

Things did not end there as Ashwin was criticized by some people for not playing the game in 'the right spirit'. At the same time, people also posted videos of other players who were a part of 'Mankading' incidents in the past.

A Twitter user posted a video of Chris Gayle who was involved in this incident during the ICC World T20 in 2012 where he did not dislodge the bails even though the batsman had left the crease before Gayle had bowled.

At the same time, there was another video which included West Indian fast bowling legend Courtney Walsh. This was an incident of the 1987 World Cup where West Indies were facing Pakistan which they went on to lose by one run. However, the highlight of this video was Walsh who did not run out Saleem Jaffer.

Ashwin was also involved in the 'Mankading' saga before. He had run out Sri Lanka's Lahiru Thirimmane in the 2012 tri-series in Australia. However, Virender Sehwag who was captaining in that game decided to withdraw the appeal and the umpire signalled it as a dead ball.
