The Indian cricket team on Thursday registered one of their worst ever batting performance as they succumbed to a 8-wicket loss against New Zealand in the fourth ODI at Hamilton. Despite missing key players like skipper Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Mohammed Shami, no one expected the Men in Blue to perform so poorly with the bat, even though the fixture was a dead rubber.
Batting first, the visitors were bowled out for a meagre 92 with almost 20 overs to spare as Trent Boult wreaked havoc with a sensational spell. It was the seventh lowest total for India in ODIs, lowest total for then in New Zealand, and while it was an one-off batting failure considering the recent displays, the performance was surely a sign to worry for the selectors ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019.
The Twitterati were left aghast with the display by the Indian batters, with some taking a dig at the team for failing to perform in the absence of Kohli and Dhoni.
Though, some Twitter users were not much concerned by India's performance, and termed it as a bad day for the Men in Blue.
New Zealand chased down the target of 93 within 15 overs as they opened their account in the five-match series. The defeat for India was their worst ever loss in terms of balls left, and the result meant that the series is now 3-1 in favor of the visitors with one game to go.
