Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday have welcomed two players on board for the upcoming edition of IPL. Kolkata, who have lifted the IPL trophy twice in 2012 and 2014 have roped in medium pacer Sandeep Warrier and leg spinner KC Cariappa as replacements for Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi who have been ruled out owing to injuries.

Nagarkoti has been ruled out due to a back injury and Mavi will be out of action due to a back stress fracture. Both Warrier and Cariappa have prior experience of playing in the cash-rich league. Warrier had played for Royal Challengers for three seasons (2013-2015) while Cariappa has represented Kings XI Punjab in two seasons (2016 & 2017). He was also associated with Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2015 season.

The Kolkata franchise has got a couple of good options which will be good enough to replace the 2018 U-19 World Cup winning pacers.

Both the young bowlers will be looking to put their best foot forward to cash in on the opportunity.  They need to come out all guns blazing in order to make the most of this wonderful platform so that they can take their respective careers to the next level.

Warrier plays domestic cricket for Kerala and has picked up 41 wickets in 40 T20 games. In the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, he had grabbed eight wickets in the six games that he had played. The 27-year-old was also Kerala's highest wicket-taker in this season's Vijay Hazare Trophy. He had picked up 12 wickets despite missing the first three games. On the other hand, Cariappa who is a master of various spin variations plays for Karnataka and has taken 25 wickets from 28 T20 games. Recently, he was a part of Karnataka's successful Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament campaign where he had picked up 10 wickets in 11 matches.

The 12th edition of IPL will commence from March 23 with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore.  Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their 2019 campaign on March 24 where they will lock horns against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens.
