When the name of Cheteshwar Pujara is heard, there are two things which comes to any cricket fan's mind - 1) Mirror of Rahul Dravid, 2) A true sportsman. But on Thursday, social media was left aghast by an unsportsmanlike conduct of India's most dependable Test batsman.
The incident took place during the Ranji Trophy fixture between Saurashtra and Karnataka in Bengaluru. Pujara, who had just arrived at the crease, and batting at 1, had clearly nicked the ball to the wicketkeeper of Abhimanyu Mithun's bowling.
Surprisingly, the umpire failed to spot the edge, and did not raise his fingers. But what was shocking was the fact that Pujara, who is known for humble act, refused to walk off and stayed at his spot, acting like nothing happened.
He went onto score a crucial 45 to help Saurashtra post 236 on the board in reply to Karnataka's first innings score of 275. But the Twitterati were quite literally stunned by the lack of sportsmanship shown by Pujara, with some even calling him a 'cheat'.
