VB Chandrasekhar passes away, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Harsha Bhogle & others pay tribute

Former Indian cricketer and national selector VB Chandrasekhar passed away in Chennai on Thursday. The ex-batsman's untimely demise happened just six days before his 58th birthday. Chandrasekhar is survived by his better half and two daughters. 

His sudden demise has not only shocked the people who knew him well along with his dear ones, but it has also come as a shock for the members of the cricketing fraternity. They have come forward to express pay tribute to the former batsman.

Cricketing fraternity pays tribute to VB Chandrasekhar

Sachin Tendulkar took to social media and wrote that he was very sad to hear of the passing away of VB Chandrasekhar. The Master Blaster then added that he has fond memories of the deceased selector before expressing condolences to his family.

VVS Laxman took to Twitter and wrote that he was saddened and shocked to know about the demise of his good friend VB Chandrasekhar. The former Test batsman then expressed heartfelt condolences to his family.

Harsha Bhogle said that he was shocked to hear of the passing of VB Chandrashekhar. The veteran commentator added that it happened way too soon. Bhogle then wished the ex-batsman's wife and two daughters the strength to cope up with the situation.

Even two of Team India's World Cup-winning players who now represent Chennai Super Kings, Suresh Raina, and Harbhajan Singh in the IPL have also come forward to pay their last respects to Chandrashekar.

Chandrashekar's cricketing career:

Chandrasekhar played 7 ODIs between 1988 and 1990, scoring only 88 runs, but at the domestic level he was prolific for a few seasons, aggregating 4999 runs in 81 games with the highest score of 237 not out. A qualified engineer, Chandrasekhar made his first-class debut at the age of 25 and played in a formidable Tamil Nadu team, which comprised WV Raman, Diwakar Vasu, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, and Bharath Arun.

Unfortunately, his technique was found out during a tri-series in New Zealand in 1990, ensuring that he never played for India again.

An astute reader of the game, he was later a national selector when Greg Chappell was the coach and in his later years also did commentary in domestic cricket.
