Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Friday broke his silence on the controversy surrounding Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their comments on the recent episode of 'Koffee With Karan', terming them as irresponsible.
Speaking to the media on the eve of the first ODI between Australia and India, Kohli termed the duo's comments as individual opinions, something which is not endorsed by the Indian team.
"We as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers don't align with those views, those were individual opinions. We are still waiting for a decision to be made. From the Indian cricket team's point of view, this changes nothing in our beliefs in the change room, it does nothing to the spirit we have have been able to create. Combinations will have to be thought of once the decision comes out," he said.
The Indian duo made some really sexist, misogynist comments when they featured in the latest episode of the show featuring Bollywood director, producer Karan Johar. But little did they know that it would spark a massive controversy, which will put them in serious trouble.
Social media users took offence to their views, and expressed their anger over some of the things which they said, which was followed by an apology issued by Pandya, wherein he expressed regret over his actions.
"After reflecting on my comments on Koffee With Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments. Respect," his Twitter statement read.
The apology wasn't enough as the BCCI taking cognizance of the matter and issued show cause notices to both the individuals on Wednesday, ordering both of them to respond within 24 hours.
On Thursday, Pandya responded and was once again apologetic for his comments. While expressing "sincere regret", the all-rounder assured that such an incident would never be repeated in the future.
"As you are aware, I made an appearance on the chat show where I have made certain statements without realizing that these could be disrespectful and offend sensitivities of viewers for which I am sincerely regretful," Pandya said in an official statement.
