India captain Virat Kohli spoke about the special connection he shared with former Finance Minister late Arun Jaitley, during the renaming ceremony of the Feroz Shah Kotla to the Arun Jaitley stadium on Thursday.
“When my father died, Shri Arun Jaitley came to my house to console and motivate me. That is why I had a special connection with him,” said the captain of the Indian national cricket team, who also had a stand named after him in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, on Thursday.
The decision to rename the stadium was taken by the District Cricket Association (DDCA) on August 27. The move came as a tribute to the late Union Minister, who breathed his last on August 24, 2019, at the age of 66. However, according to reports, DDCA confirmed that the ground will continue to be called as the Feroz Shah Kotla. Arun Jaitley was known for his administrative exploits with the DDCA.

Arun Jaitley, who was the president of DDCA from 1999 to 2013, played a very important role in renovating the stadium during his tenure. The steps taken by Jaitley led to a significant increase in the capacity of the stadium to accommodate more audience. Additionally, he also made the construction of world-class dressing rooms at this stadium, possible.
Known as the ‘Troubleshooter’ of the Modi Government, the former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was not just a political leader. He was a leader of well-thought policies and focused agendas. He helped the Modi government to formulate policies that have not only helped in the betterment of the public at large but has also changed the face of the economy of the nation.
While Union Home Minister Amit Shah was the chief guest for the function, Sports Minister Kiren Rijuju and Jaitley's family members were also present at the function to commemorate Jaitley's riveting contributions as a former DDCA president in cricket and careers of cricketers.
