Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been leading the Indian side outstandingly well in Test cricket. In fact, under his leadership, India has been the top-ranked side in the longest format of the game for three years now i.e. since October 2016 to be precise. The Virat Kohli-led side has also had an excellent start to their ICC World Test Championship campaign as they are on top of the points table with 160 points in three games. Meanwhile, Kohli, who was dethroned from the top spot by Steve Smith in batsman's rankings, will also look to get as close as he can to the top spot. However, there was one incident that prompted him to thank the South African fielders.

Kohli thanks Proteas

It had happened in the 66th over of the first day's play in Pune on Thursday. Kohli, who is arguably the world-class batsman when it comes to running between the wickets, attempted a quick single after having guided one down to the point. Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada, who was fielding at point, quickly collected the ball and aimed at the stumps. Not only did the throw miss the stumps, but it was not backed by the fielder at forward short leg either and the ball raced towards the boundary as a result of which Kohli got five precious runs for himself as well as for his team. The Indian skipper was so overwhelmed after getting that overthrow which had eased off a lot of pressure that he showed his gesture by thanking the South African fielders by giving thumbs to them all.

Kohli scores his 26th Test ton

Virat Kohli had come out to bat after India had lost Cheteshwar Pujara and sometime later even centurion Mayank Agarwal departed back to the pavilion. Kohli then steadied things with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane as India ended Day 1 without any further damage.

Kohli had resumed his innings on Day 2 at the score of 63. He along with Rahane added 178 runs for the fourth wicket stand. In the process, the Indian captain scored his 26th Test century which put India in a commanding position. At tea on Day 2, Kohli remained unbeaten on 194 as India's score read 473/4.
