Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli turned 31 on Thursday. On the field, Kohli is a force to reckon with and is the same off it too. He has proven his captaincy credentials with good tactical acumen. Off the field, he seems to have a similar knack as he has managed to come up with some smart business investments as a fine retirement plan. Here are some of those ventures which make him one of the richest sportspersons in the world.

Sports ventures

Buying a team in the Indian Super League in 2014 was one of Kohli’s first business ventures. He co-owns the club FC Goa. The cricketer, who has been vocal about his love for football, took the opportunity to invest in a team to promote the sport in the country. When it comes to his involvement in FC Goa, a leading Indian business publication claims that he owns a majority stake valued at less than Rs. 10 million. Among his other sports ventures, the Indian captain is also the co-owner of the International Tennis Premier League franchise UAE Royals, which had even roped in the legendary Roger Federer for one season.

Fashion brand

Virat Kohli tapped into the fashion market with his clothing brand Wrogn that caters to the youth. With the tagline ‘Breakaway Youth Fashion’, Kohli’s brand of clothing is available not only in retail outlets across the country but also 70 offline stores. The brand has also partnered with a few online shopping sites. Kohli is known to sport the brand at every opportunity he gets. His line also has its exclusive outlets, attracting young fashionistas who want to dress up as their idol.

Fitness ventures

Apart from sports and fashion, Kohli has also invested heavily in fitness, since he himself has become an icon for the same. In 2015, he invested in a chain of gyms called Chisel. The fitness chain is looking to re-define fitness by introducing technology-enabled workouts, which is expected to help it widen its base in the country. His second fitness venture is the Stepathlon Kids. This start-up venture looks to increase awareness regarding health issues among the youth through pedometer-inspired virtual races.
