Team India will be hoping to continue their dream run in the ongoing West Indies tour. They were invincible in the limited-overs series as they registered comprehensive wins and T20I (3-0) as well as ODI series (2-0). Now, India will be hoping for a total whitewash in the upcoming Test series. The first of the two-match series will be played in Antigua on Thursday.
The Test series will also mark the beginning of Virat Kohli & Co.'s participation in the ICC World Test Championship. Ever since Virat Kohli has taken over as the Test captaincy from MS Dhoni back in 2014, he has taken Team India to greater heights in the game's longest format barring a couple of failures. Team India have been keeping the 'Numero Uno' spot in ICC World Test Rankings since October 2016 and Virat Kohli would be aiming to keep up the momentum as his team will be eyeing to win the maiden Test Championship crown in 2021.
Coming back to Kohli, Virender Sehwag had something to say about him as well as his idol the great Sachin Tendulkar.
While speaking to a media publication, Virender Sehwag has said that Virat Kohli is the best batsman as of now with the way at which he is scoring runs and centuries. Viru says that he is sure that he will break most of his idol Sachin Tendulkar's records.
Kohli is inching closer to Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI centuries. The Master Blaster has 49 tons in 463 matches while the Indian skipper after his back-to-back hundreds against Windies now has 43 in 239 games.
However, when it comes to the Test arena, Virat is way behind Tendulkar's record. The Little Master has 51 centuries in 200 Tests while the current batting maestro has 25 tons in 77 matches. This is where Virender Sehwag reckons that the record will not be broken.
That's correct what the 40-year-old meant was about the legendary batsman's 200 Test appearances. Sehwag said that there is no one who can break Sachin Tendulkar's record of 200 Test matches and in fact, he does not think anyone can play more than 200 Test matches.
At the same time, Sehwag also said that Virat Kohli is a far better batsman than Steve Smith as Kohli looks much more pleasing to the eyes while batting compared to the former Australian skipper before adding that the Indian captain was the number one batsman in the longest format of the game.
