Kings XI Punjab ended their season on a winning note, beating defending champions and table-toppers Chennai Super Kings by six wickets at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on Sunday. There were a lot of good moments in this inconsequential game which included Faf du Plessis' brilliant knock, Sam Curran's outstanding bowling spell, and a couple of excellent partnerships in both the innings. However, there was a standout feature in the second innings, and it featured none other than the 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle

It happened in the fifth over which was bowled by Deepak Chahar and the explosive West Indian batsman was on strike. On the fourth delivery, Chris Gayle hit the ball towards mid-off and set off for a quick single. Kedar Jadhav, who was stationed at mid-off, picked up the ball quickly and had a shy at the stumps. Nonetheless, the ball missed the target and Gayle completed the run.

But what was astonishing is that the big Caribbean collided with the on-field umpire. The stylish all-rounder was then seen having some fun with the umpire. However, he also got a lifeline as replays showed that Gayle was short of the non-striker's crease and had Jadhav's throw hit the stumps, then it would have ended his stay in the middle.

Even the netizens came forward to have some fun.

Kings XI Punjab, who were already out of the contention of making it to the playoffs, came out all guns blazing as their star openers Chris Gayle and KL Rahul put on 108 runs for the opening stand. The duo was then dismissed in quick succession and Mayank Agarwal followed them soon. Nicolas Pooran then played a stellar cameo of a 22-ball 36.  Mandeep Singh and Sam Curran later added finishing touches as KXIP got home with two overs to spare.

Earlier, Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opener Faf du Plessis scored a superb 55-ball 96. The South African skipper stitched in a 120-run stand with Suresh Raina (53). Faf fell short of a well-deserved ton when he was yorked by English all-rounder Sam Curran in the penultimate over. His innings and Raina's supporting knock helped CSK get to a good total of 170/5 in their 20 overs.
