Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has invited the wrath of the cricketing fraternity after his controversial method of running-out Rajasthan  Royals Jos Buttler during the IPL game on last Monday. The off-spinner had Mankaded the England star to send shock waves in the cricketing world. Unsurprisingly, the controversial incident invited a lot of criticism. While there was one section that did feel that Ashwin was within his rights to dismiss the batsman, the majority slammed the India star for going against the spirit of the game. 

Now, in a recent video which is going viral, James Anderson, who is England’s leading wicket-taker in Tests, was seen shredding Ashwin’s picture as a reaction to the Mankad controversy. Take a look:

Earlier on March 30, 2019, Mumbai Indians all-rounder Krunal Pandya won plaudits from the cricket fraternity after he warned Mayank Agarwal for leaving the crease and didn’t run him out like Kings XI Punjab Ravichandran Ashwin did a few matches ago. Michael Vaughan lauded him and said that this is the way one should deal with a Mankad.

On March 25, 2019, encounter between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium was a delight to watch for the spectators as Chris Gayle became the fastest batsman to score 4,000 runs in IPL history. 

However, the laws of the cricket took a backseat after Ravichandran Ashwin, Kings XI Punjab skipper, 'mankaded' Jos Buttler, inflicting a massive blow on Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. 

The incident took place in the 13th over of Rajasthan innings when Ashwin had dislodged the bails at the non-strikers end while he was about to bowl as Jos Buttler had walked down the pitch. The Punjab skipper appealed for a run out instantly. The decision was made in his favour and Buttler's gritty knock came to an end. However, this did not go down well with Twitterati and they criticized Ashwin for 'Mankading' Buttler.

The gatekeeper of the rules of cricket, MCC ended all the debate on the 'Mankad' controversy surrounding Ravichandran Ashwin and Jos Buttler, stating that the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper was at fault in that incident, and that he paused for a bit too long which resulted in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman leaving the crease and subsequently getting run out.
