Kings XI Punjab will be facing off against two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday. Both teams are charged up after their beginning their respective campaigns with a win under their belts and will be eager to continue their winning momentum.
The Punjab outfit was so excited after notching up their first win that their players came up with a new motivational song to keep themselves going throughout the tournament. Kings XI Punjab took to Twitter to share this video.
Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin first informs everyone that it felt amazing to start off the season with two points and it was also their first win in Sawai Mansingh stadium. He then added that they felt great as a group and they decided to come up with a team song which they were going to sing for the first time after their win. The players then start singing their team song 'Punjabi, oye Sher Punjabi!' with batsman Mandeep Singh as the lead singer.
However, more than Punjab's victory, it was the 'Mankading' saga which involved their captain Ravichandran Ashwin and star Rajasthan Royals opening batsman Jos Buttler that grabbed the headlines on Monday. Ashwin dislodged the bails in the 13th over of the Rajasthan innings when he saw Jos Buttler come down the wicket and instantly appealed for a run out and the third umpire gave the verdict in his favour which ended Buttler's quickfire knock of a 43-ball 69. Buttler was disappointed as Ashwin had not warned him about it previously. The disappointment became clear when Buttler refused to shake hands with the Punjab skipper after the match.
Earlier, Chris Gayle's explosive knock of a 47-ball 79 ensured that KXIP got to a competitive score of 184/4 in their 50 overs. The 'Universe Boss' became the fastest batsman in IPL history to score 4,000 runs and he also registered his 25th IPL half-century.
