Ashwin took the catch to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan on 56 in the following over after Hardus Viljoen hurried the DC opener with a bouncer. Despite Dhawan's untimely departure, captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 58 and helped Delhi Capitals get past the finish line and retain the third spot on the IPL 2019 points table.

Earlier in the 2019 Indian Premier League, the laws of the cricket took a backseat after Ravichandran Ashwin, Kings XI Punjab skipper, 'mankaded' Jos Buttler, inflicting a massive blow on Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Shane Warne, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, and Dale Steyn blasted Ashwin over his action while James Anderson chose a more distasteful way to express his disagreement.

KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about the events and expressed no regret. He had also added that it was an instinctive decision, not premeditated.

"It was pretty instinctive. I actually didn't load and he (Buttler) left the crease. That's always been my take on it because it's my half of the crease. I was not even at the crease, he wasn't even looking at me and he just left the place," the off-spinner had said.

The KXIP skipper also defended himself by mentioning that his actions were well within the rules of the game.

"It was instinctive. It wasn't planned. I don't know where the spirit of the game things comes because if it's within the rules, it is. I don't understand the point of sporting spirit because it is within the rules," Ashwin had added.
