Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is back among the headlines after featuring in a comical runout of Hetmyer during Day two of the first test match against West Indies in Rajkot. The dismissal might have left fans into splits, but Indian skipper Virat Kohli seemed least pleased after the incident.
Earlier, the local boy enthralled his home crowd at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium after scoring his maiden test century in a whirlwind effort that saw him hammer five fours and as many sixes off 132 balls.
Upon completion of his milestone, he breathed a huge sigh of relief with his outstretched arms looking skywards before unleashing his trademark sword celebration, much to the entertainment of the spectators.
And if that wasn't enough, Ravindra Jadeja has given further more reason for the fans to smile at the expense of a lackluster display from the West Indies. Soon after Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten 103, India declared the innings setting a mammoth target of 649 for the West Indies.
The in-experienced West Indies batting lineup were made short work of by the Indian bowlers as they dispatched they Caribbean top-order within the first 10 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was among the wickets after he was involved in a bizarre runout dismissal and moments later topped that up by taking his first wicket of his first delivery.
Though, the manner in which they run-out was executed has been one of the talking points of the match. The incident happened in Ravichandran Ashwin's over, when a mixup between the two batsmen Hetmyer and Sunil Ambri, saw them both ending up on the same side of the pitch.
Seeing both the batsmen on the same end, Ravindra Jadeja decided to walk up to the stumps, instead of throwing the ball directly. This gave Hetmyer some hope as he decided to quickly run across to the bowler's end. Thankfully, Ravindra Jadeja was quick to react as he instantly threw the ball at the stumps, but survived a scare as it narrowly clipped the bails.
After watching Jadeja's theatrics, the manner of the dismissal didn't seem to go down well with Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper could be seen having a brief moment with the all-rounder for his antics, which also left the bowler Ravichandra Ashwin stunned.
In the end, the fact that Jadeja managed to get the wicket calmed the tensions among the Indian camp, while the all-rounder managed to save his face from what could have proved to be a major embarrassment.
