Rohit Sharma, who is leading Mumbai Indians for the 100th time, decided to test his footballing skills during his team's clash against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Rohit opened the innings for Mumbai along with Quinton de Kock after his opposite number Ajinkya Rahane had won the toss and decided to bowl first. The MI skipper added 96 runs for the opening wicket along with the South African wicket-keeper batsman. However, there was one occasion during the Mumbai innings where the Indian vice-captain had to do something funny in order to save his wicket. Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the very next over for a 32-ball 47.
The incident happened in the 10th over of the Mumbai's innings which was bowled by Krishnappa Gowtham. On the fourth ball of the over, the off-spinner bowled a wide delivery down the leg side after he saw that the 'Hitman' charged down the wicket and intended to hit him into the stands. Rohit, sensing that he would be stumped off a wide ball, showed his footballing skills as he blocked the ball with his feet and it ended up going to the leg side while Sanju Samson's dive behind the stumps went in vain. Rohit was then seen having a hearty laugh over it.
The video of Rohit's hilarious tactic was shared on Twitter.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma recovered in time to lead his side against Rajasthan Royals. The dashing Indian opening batsman did not play in Mumbai's last game against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday as the 'Hitman' had suffered a right leg muscle spasm while practicing a day prior. Rohit had had limped back to the dressing room post which he did not take any further part in the training session. As a result, Kieron Pollard was made the stand-in captain and he scored a blistering 31-ball 83 which helped Mumbai register a three-wicket win on the last ball of the game.
