The first ODI between New Zealand and India in Napier, which the visitors won by eight wickets, had a number of headlining moments. In terms of cricketing action, the struggle of Kiwis batsmen and the stunning performance of the Indian bolwers was a major talking point. As for the action away from cricket, the players being forced off the field due to 'excessive sun' was something to note, though on a lighter note.

But one piece of action, which left the cricketing world in splits, was the defensive shot by Trent Boult!

With his side reeling at 149 for 9, and up against some sensational spin bowling by Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, Boult tried to save his wicket using a defence, but ended up making a mess of it.

In the second ball of the 37th over bowled by Chahal, the New Zealand's tailender stepped down the pitch to tackle the leg-spinner. But upon realizing he has come too far, he went back, and somehow managed to defend the ball, though, in a fashion which brought out tears of laughter in Rohit Sharma's eyes.

This wasn't the only incident Boult was involved in the first match in Napier. Just 10 balls after his bizzare defence, he was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, though, Boult can claim that his wicket was orchestrated by MS Dhoni.

Kuldeep was set to bowl from over the wicket as he looked to end New Zealand's innings. But Dhoni, standing behind the stumps, adviced the youngster to go around the wicket, and instructed him to bowl slow, given the batsman would be defending and a slow spinning delivery may get his edge. And so it happened!

"Rokega, ye aankh band karke rokega. Udhar se daal sakta hai. Idhar se andar nahi ayega," Dhoni told Kuldeep before the chinaman got the edge of Boult, which was easily taken in the slip by Rohit Sharma.
