Veteran West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle on Saturday reminded the world of the power he possesses as he slammed a breathtaking 27-ball 77 to help his side win the fifth ODI against England and level the five-match series.

There were demands at the start of the series that Gayle retires from international cricket. But the 'Universal Boss' shut his doubters with a scintillating batting display, scoring an astonishing 424 runs in four innings.

Following his astonishing hitting in the fifth ODI, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who is himself known for delivering such mighty performances, took to Twitter and heaped praise on Gayle.

"Universe Boss for a reason. 27 ball 77 from the big man, raining sixes at will , what an entertainer @henrygayle," his social media post read.

The series between West Indies and England at the Caribbean ended in a tie with both the teams winning two matches each.

Having been humbled by the hosts in the Test series, the visitors began the ODI leg with a sensational performance in the first ODI, chasing down Windies' 360 to go one up in the series. But the hosts bounced back in sensational fashion in the second ODI, winning the fixture by 26 runs and leveling the series.

The third ODI was abandoned without a bowl being bowled, and all the eyes were on the final two ODIs.

England made sure series wouldn't be lost as they won a run-laden fourth ODI by 29 runs. Though, the series wasn't theirs as the Windies demolished the visitors by winning the final ODI by seven wickets with nearly 38 overs to spare.

Gayle earned man of the series for his insane batting performance. In each of the fixtures, he went past the 50-mark and had a strike rate of 134 at the end of the series. He also had the highest individual score in the series - 162 in the fourth ODI - though, it came for a losing cause.
