"Whenever I Score, I Score For Him": Prithvi Shaw Dedicates Maiden Debut Century To His Hero

After becoming the youngest Indian to score a debut Test century, Prithvi Shaw expressed his joy by dedicating his remarkable feat to his dad.

Prithvi Shaw on Thursday entered the record books after he became the youngest Indian to score a century on his Test debut. The young batsman scored 134 runs before being dismissed by Devendra Bishoo.

Expressing his joy after his tremendous feat, Prithvi Shaw dedicated the century to his dad, with whom he shares a very close relationship with. It is a known fact that the young cricketer had lost his mother at a very young age and it was his father, who was his biggest support system in his pursuit to become a top cricketer.

It is said that Prithvi Shaw's dad would wake up before day-break to make breakfast for his son before they both left their home in Virar to catch a train to Bandra, where the young Pirthvi would practice. 

Recollecting the sacrifices his dad made for him, Prithvi said: "I was thinking about Dad, as he has sacrificed a lot for me.... My first hundred.. it's all for him. Whenever I score, I score for him.

There was lot of hype surrounding the first Test match against West Indies after BCCI had announced on the eve of the match that Prithvi Shaw would be making his debut. When the day finally arrived, the right-handed batsman did not disappoint. The young batsman not only scored his first century, but also shattered several records in the process.

The 18-year-old smashed a century in 99 balls, and in doing so, became the third fastest behind Shikhar Dhawan and Dwayne Smith to score a ton under 100 balls. Further, he became the second youngest Indian to score a hundred in Test cricket, with 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar the only one ahead of him.

However, Prithvi Shaw is no stranger to headlines. Ever since the talented young batsman shot to prominence shot after starring for his school Rizvi Springfield after scoring 546 off 330 balls, Prithvi Shaw has been likened to Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The 18 year-old's classic strokeplay didn't not go unnoticed as he earned the praises from several prominent figures from the cricket fraternity. The Master Blaster himself, Sachin Tendulkar was left in awe with the 'fearless' effort put on by Prithvi Shaw on his debut innings.

India dominated visitors on Day one in all the three sessions played on Thursday. At the stumps India were batting for 364/4 with skipper Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant on the crease.
