Tennis legend Roger Federer beat his fierce rival Rafael Nadal 7-6 (7/3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 during their high-octane Wimbledon semi-final clash at the All England Club on Friday. The two tennis superstars were meeting in a Wimbledon clash for the first time in 11 years. Nadal had got the better of Federer when the duo had faced off against each other in the grand finale back in 2008.
At the same time, this was also the 40th face-off between the two sporting icons which went in the Swiss player's favour. By the virtue of this win, Federer has entered his 12th Wimbledon final where he will be up against the defending champion as well as the top seed Novak Djokovic as the 37-year-old will be aiming to win his record ninth Wimbledon crown. Meanwhile, Djokovic had earlier defeated Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Coming back to the epic semi-final showdown, all the matches which feature Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are always a delight to watch. After all, who can forget Federer's respect and words of motivation for his Spaniard rival after the former had emerged victorious in their Australian Open final back in 2017?
"Keep playing Rafa. Tennis needs you."
Not only is it a delight for the fans but it was also a delight for the cricketing fraternity who just could not control their emotions after the agile yet athletic Roger Federer overcame a spirited Rafael Nadal in what is arguably regarded as their best face-off.
Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh came forward with a special message for Federer after his emphatic win.
Earlier, Yuvi had also mentioned that he was supporting Federer and asked the fans who they were rooting for?
Former South African skipper and Yuvraj's ex-RCB team-mate, AB de Villiers also hailed the Swiss legend.
ABD took to Twitter and wrote that Federer was on a different level and that it was the best ever that he had seen him play.
The 'Voice of Indian Cricket' Harsha Bhogle also could not hold back from showing his respect for the eight-time Wimbledon winner. Bhogle wrote that Federer will keep enthralling all till the age of 70 and asked him to never go away. He also added that every game that the Swiss legend plays is a home game which is just glorious to watch.
The veteran commentator was also full of praises for Rafael Nadal.
