The 12th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup kicked off with the hosts England locking horns against South Africa in the tournament opener at the Oval. South African skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Proteas captain decided to surprise the hosts by making veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir bowl the very first over of the innings. His move paid off as Tahir struck for South Africa in his second delivery, taking the wicket of the dangerous Jonny Bairstow. Tahir bowled a delivery which Bairstow tried to defend by striding forward. However, he ended up edging the ball and Quinton de Kock made no mistake behind the stumps as Imran Tahir carried off with his signature style celebrations.
