As India take on England in their seventh World Cup game at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday, it is not just the Indian fans praying for a victory against the host nation but even Pakistan and Bangladesh fans are praying for India's victory so that their sides have a chance to make it past the group stage.
India is currently placed at the second spot in the tournament table with six wins out of seven matches, requiring just one more victory to seal a berth at the semi-finals. Pakistan on the other hand, are at the sixth spot with seven points, needing to win two out their next two outings in order to proceed ahead. Bangladesh too are at seven points with three victories out of seven matches, requiring two more victories to proceed to the semis.
Both Pakistan and Bangladesh, however, are pinning their hopes on India to win their next three outings, so that they can go past the group stage. Twitter exploded with Bangladeshi and Pakistani fans praying for India to win against England. Read some of the reactions here:
Fans around the world drew a comparison of the India-England clash to the fight during the partition when undivided India fought against the crown for independence in 1947. While Pakistan faces Afghanistan on 29 June, Bangladesh will face India on 2 July at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
