Hack:

  • At Edgbaston against England on Sunday, the unit put out their worst performance in this edition, conceding 337 runs.
  • The star attraction was obviously Mohammed Shami, who scalped five English wickets.
  • However, it was not Shami, but his new ball partner Jasprit Bumrah who got special praise from  Michael Vaughan, who termed him as the 'best in the world'.

Indian bowlers have been on fire in the World Cup, picking up wickets while putting the brakes on the scoring rates.  However, at Edgbaston against England on Sunday, the unit put out their worst performance in this edition, conceding 337 runs. While the spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were absolutely hammered, the seamers did a comparatively better job. While Hardik Pandya went wicketless, the star attraction was obviously Mohammed Shami, who scalped five English wickets. However, it was not Shami, but his new ball partner Jasprit Bumrah who got special praise from  Michael Vaughan. Impressed by his brilliant exhibition of bowling at the death, the former England captain not just called the speedster ‘best in the world’, but ‘by a country mile’.

Bumrah conceded just 8 runs in the first powerplay when England openers Janny Bairstow and Jason Roy were going hammer and tongs. After being hammered for 10 runs in the the 24th over of the England innings, the speedster conceded just 27 runs in five death overs, to finish with figures of 1/44 in his 10 overs.

Now, compare that to Shami, who ended up picking 5 wickets, but went for a whopping 44 runs in his last 3 overs.

Vaughan tweeted, “How good is @Jaspritbumrah93 !!! His last 5 overs were an exhibition of to bowl at the death ... Best in the World by a country mile ... #CWC19.”

Vaughan is not the only one to be awestruck by Bumrah. Indian captain himself had stated that there was no need to even discuss the bowler as he had separated himself from the rest. Bumrah is the No 1 ranked bowler in ICC ODI ratings.

Meanwhile, in the India were facing a tough battle to chase the target of 338 and needed 61 from 23 balls at the time of publishing this story. Rohit Sharma's hundred, Virat Kohli's fifty didn't prove to be enough.
