The army is ready with the soldiers who will take on the enemies in the battleground that is the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The buzz over the players who would make a cut in the 15-member squad was on for the past few days and many had even made their predictions. One such person was Virender Sehwag, who almost got it right, and Dinesh Karthik in place of Rishabh Pant, one of the contentious decisions of the announcement, turned out to be the wrong one.
Two days ahead of the announcement, Sehwag had tweeted his squad for the World Cup, naming seven players from the team that made it to the semi-finals in Austalia in 2015 and eight replacements.
In his team, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami retained their places. The new entrants were KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Vijay Shankar, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant.
The 40-year-old got 14/15 right as Dinesh Karthik was selected ahead of Pant as the second wicket-keeper. Both players, along with Vijay Shankar, were trending on social media after the announcement of the squad and there were divided opinions over the places.
Incidentally, many had replied to the Sehwag then that Karthik should be in place of Pant, which turned out to be right eventually.
Nevertheless, the two-time World Cup winner tweeted his best wishes to the team after the squad was unveiled.
