Hosts England registered another win under their belt during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash against Afghanistan at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday. England are now at the top of the points table with four wins in five matches. Their wins came against Afghanistan, South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies respectively while their only loss came against Pakistan. Meanwhile, Afghanistan are yet to get off the mark as they currently languish at the bottom of the table after suffering defeats in all the five matches that they have played so far.

Coming back to the contest, English skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first. However, Morgan had no clue whatsoever about what records he was going to make later. Before the England captain shattered a few records, he was involved in a bizarre incident.

It happened in the 32nd over of the first innings when Morgan and Joe Root were looking to set a good platform for their side. The over was bowled by Morgan's counterpart Gulbadin Naib. The southpaw did not connect one of Naib's ball which went a little away after striking his body. Nonetheless, Morgan decided to go for a quick single, but then changed his mind at the very last minute. It appeared that Naib wanted to give the fielder some time to run his opposite number out as the Afghan skipper was seen obstructing Morgan from getting inside the crease and in the process, the English skipper's bat popped out of his hands. But, nothing untoward happened as Morgan made back to the crease safely despite the fielder taking off the bails.

The video of this bizarre incident was posted by Cricket World Cup on their official Twitter handle. Watch the video here.

Here's what the netizens had to say about this incident.

Morgan did not get distracted as he played a swashbuckling knock of 148 of just 71 balls at a strike rate of 208.45, before getting caught by Rahmat off Naib's bowling. He played a captain's innings, decimating all the bowlers in the opposition's line-up, making the fourth fastest century in a World Cup game. Morgan's century came off just 57 balls, behind Kevin'O Brien, Glenn Maxwell, and AB De Villiers. The left-hander smashed three sixes off Rashid Khan's over to get to his century.

Morgan also achieved another rare feat as he joined the league of batsmen having 200 one-day international sixes to his name after his spectacular knock. After his innings, Morgan now stands with 211 one-day international sixes to his name.

Meanwhile, Rashid Khan suffered his career's most expensive spell as he conceded 109 runs in ten overs with an economy rate of 12.22 and became the first spinner in ODI game to concede 100 plus runs.
